About the Department

The Department of Mechanical Engineering, established in 2009, is one of the most dynamic and evergreen branches of SVHEC. The department offers a UG programme in B.E. Mechanical Engineering and a PG programme in M.E. Industrial Safety Engineering. Mechanical Engineering integrates the principles of engineering, physics, mathematics, and material science to design, analyze, manufacture, and maintain mechanical systems. The department plays a vital role in preparing students for key sectors such as automotive, aerospace, energy systems, thermal engineering, CAD/CAM/CAE, design, manufacturing, and industrial safety. To support advanced learning and hands-on innovation, the department is equipped with a dedicated Additive Manufacturing Laboratory, enabling students to explore rapid prototyping, product design, and modern digital manufacturing techniques. With the rapid evolution of technologies like Automation, Robotics, Industry 4.0, Smart Aviation, and Mechatronics, the department ensures students are well-trained to meet contemporary industrial demands. Our graduates develop strong analytical, problem-solving, and teamwork skills that empower them to excel in diverse domains including safety engineering, product development, FEM analysis, mechatronics, and industrial management. The department remains committed to academic excellence, research culture, industry collaboration, and holistic student development.

Engineering knowledge

PO 1: Apply knowledge of mathematics, science, engineering fundamentals to solve complex engineering problems.

Problem analysis

PO 2: Identify, formulate, review research literature, and analyze complex engineering problems reaching substantiated conclusions using first principles of mathematics, natural sciences, and engineering sciences.

Design/development of solutions

PO 3: Design solutions for complex engineering problems and design system components or processes that meet specified needs with appropriate consideration for public health and safety, and cultural, societal, and environmental considerations.

Conduct investigations of complex problems

PO 4: Use research-based knowledge and research methods including design of experiments, analysis and interpretation of data, and synthesis of information to provide valid conclusions.

Modern tool usage

PO 5: Create, select, and apply appropriate techniques, resources, and modern engineering and IT tools including prediction and modeling to complex engineering activities with an understanding of their limitations.

PO 6: Apply reasoning informed by contextual knowledge to assess societal, health, safety, legal, and cultural issues and the consequent responsibilities relevant to professional engineering practice.
